Question 1
Tell me about a technical decision you made that other teams had to live with.
Approach. Say the constraint, who disagreed, and what you wrote down so the decision could be reversed later.
Turn a staff engineer job description into likely scope, design, and influence questions, with a one-line approach.

Staff postings are scope interviews. “Multi-team,” “strategy,” and “architecture review” mean a decision other people had to live with. Mentorship means you left the work in someone else’s hands. System design at this level is about what you will not build yet, and how you wrote the decision so it can be reversed.
Coding may still appear, but the failure mode is answering like a senior on a single service when they asked about direction. Read whether the posting says you still write code. If it does, have a recent example. If it says influence, do not invent a fake IC week.
Prepare one written decision and one person you mentored without becoming the hero. The sample is a staff role across product teams.
The posting below is already in the tool. The questions are the ones its requirements point to. Replace it with a posting you are actually interviewing for.
